Dear readers,

There’s no two ways about it: This year was a challenging one – for all of us and in all sorts of ways. But now the time has come to look to the future with optimism.

For example, I’m excited to find out what Elon Musk is planning here in Hessen for 2021. His SpaceX Group’s Starlink project aims to bring high-speed satellite Internet to even the remotest areas. He has selected Frankfurt as his German headquarters for this venture and we will, of course, be actively supporting the process. I am also delighted that preparations for manufacturing Covid-19 vaccines are in full swing at not one but two different locations in Hessen: Up to one billion doses will be produced in Marburg and Frankfurt-Höchst in the coming year!

My recommended read in this newsletter is the interview with Donald Schaffer, Director Sales & Marketing Europe and Head of Automotive Solution Business Unit Europe at Dexerials. He recounts his experiences looking for a location - the Japanese manufacturer of advanced materials opened an office in Hessen over three years ago - on how to survive the brutal competition in the automotive supplies business, and how to master the coronavirus pandemic. He also reveals his top tip for future investors.

In addition, this newsletter showcases the many international companies who have invested in expanding their operations in Hessen in recent years, and how we can also help you with this.
After all, one thing is certain: We are here for you in these turbulent times, just as ever.

Wishing you happy holidays and a good start to the new year.
